Zlatan Ibrahimovic was honored for his career at the Globe Soccer Awards, where he provided an update on his fitness and weighed in on the season to Sky.
“I’m eager to return, I’m fine and I’m working hard. I couldn’t play in the first half of the season, but I hope to be there for the second one. Milan are doing well, but Napoli have been better, that’s what the table says. We continue to believe in the Scudetto. The rest of the schedule will be more important than the early one.”
The star also looked ahead to the clashes with Tottenham.
“Champions League is always difficult. There won’t be a favorite in the Round of 16, and it’ll be open to every result. The main thing will be to be in good shape when the time comes.”
Ibrahimovic joked about receiving a career award.
“Relax, it’s not over yet. But I’m honored. I wouldn’t be here without my family, and I thank the fans too.”
The striker praised directors Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara.
“The squad has grown a lot since I joined. They are doing a great job, and we had success thanks to them. Everybody is taking care of their responsibilities within the club.”
The sporting director dished on the return of Ibrahimovic and the extension talks with Rafael Leao.
“We re-upped his contract with a precise idea. He’ll be with us at the Dubai retreat, and then we hope he’ll play in January. That’s his goal. We wanted to seal the deal with Leao before the World Cup, but it wasn’t possible. We have been in talks for months. When it’ll be time for some decisions, we’ll meet and make them.”
