Ibrahimovic Talks Injury Recovery, His Mindset and Leao

Zlatan Ibrahimovic traveled with the rest of the Milan squad to Dubai for a retreat ahead of Serie A’s resumption, even though he’s not cleared to practice fully. He discussed his injury and more with Sky.

“I’m fine and improving every day. If it was up to me, I would have returned for the first game of the season, but that’s not the case. There’s not a firm date, nor a target one. When I’m ready, I’ll come back. I don’t know when it’ll happen, but it’s important to follow all the steps. I want to bring results on the pitch and play because I deserve it; otherwise, I’ll go to the bench or the stands.”

The star has high eyes set on the Scudetto.

“It’s an objective, not a dream. You have to come through. My personal challenge is to always do more. However, I’m not like I used to be ten years ago, when the ego was much bigger. Since I’m more experienced, I want to give back what I received, as it has happened since I joined Milan. I helped improve them collectively and individually. My goal is the same, but I pursue it differently since I can’t do it on my own. I’m more realistic. I accept the decisions by the coach, even if they work against me.”

Ibrahimovic discussed Rafael Leao.

“I think this is the right environment for him to keep growing. He’s key to us and he’s making the difference. He would have to start from scratch elsewhere. He has grown a lot, and the gaffer gives him liberty. Those situations don’t happen right away, you have to create them. He’s comfortable with us, and he’s always smiling.”
