Ibrahimovic Throws Grenades at Guardiola and Mbappé

Zlatan Ibrahimovic previously updated on his recovery and mocked Ligue 1 in previous excerpts of an interview with Canal+, while he dished on Manchester City and Kylian Mbappé in the latest installment (via DAZN).

“I like Erling Haaland a lot, he’s intelligent and never does things that are beyond his reach. He doesn’t track back to touch the ball, he waits in the box and scores. He reminds me players like Filippo Inzaghi, David Trezeguet, and Christian Vieri. In my opinion, he’s the modern version of them.”

The Milan veteran was less complimentary towards Pep Guardiola. He was quizzed about whether the Norwegian star could improve under the tutelage of the Catalan coach.

“It depends on Pep’s ego and whether he will allow Haaland to become bigger than him or not. He didn’t let it happen with me and other players.”

Ibrahimovic also didn’t mince words towards Mbappé, who ultimately didn’t depart last season.

“By staying in Paris, he didn’t make the right choice for himself, but for the club. He put himself in a position to be more important than his team, which permitted it. He has to realize that you can never be bigger than your side. I don’t know him personally, but he’s a fantastic player. However, if you don’t have self-discipline, then you lose your identity. He must start to grow, and not settle, if he wants to become as important as Zinedine Zidane has been for France.

The striker lashed out at the reporter that suggested he might retire during the recent game versus RB Salzburg.

“You don’t have to go around saying that I will not play anymore. Don’t speak about it you didn’t hear it from me.”
