Nesta Gives 2022/23 Serie A Verdict, Backs Dybala to Flop

Iconic Lazio and Milan center-back Alessandro Nesta believes 2022/23 will be full of surprises and excitement, given how Milan, Inter and Juventus have all grown during the course of the current summer transfer market.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport in an exclusive interview, the World Cup winner shed his thoughts on what he considers to be a tightly-fought contest for next season’s Scudetto (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“Milan have been reborn and Paolo Maldini has rebuilt the whole team. Now, reinforcements are needed. Inter are the strongest: Romelu Lukaku solves the biggest problem of last season, the attack. Juve have no excuses, with all their investments they are forced to win the championship at least.”

The Rossoneri stormed to a first league victory in a decade, taking the title away from fellow city rivals Inter after a close 2021/22 season. Nesta thinks it has all been made possible due to the upper management.

“Each group has its dynamics, but I think they have recreated a family with Stefano Pioli, Maldini and Frederic Massara, who have put together a loose environment. This is Milan’s greatest strength today.”

Finally, he also gave his verdict on Lazio’s upcoming campaign and the effect of Roma’s free signing of highly-rated Argentine Paulo Dybala (via LazioNews24).

“Lazio are fixing things. They kept the big names and brought in a few pieces, they too must aim higher than in the past. I hope Dybala will not make the difference at Roma. Well, I’m very Lazio and not a hypocrite. Certainly Roma, after such an important purchase, must raise the bar and aspire a place in the Champions League.”

The 2022/23 season will run from the weekend of August 14 to June 4, 2023, with a large two-month break in between for the World Cup in November and December.
