Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has confirmed that Joaquin Correa wants to leave the Stadio Olimpico, naming Inter among his potential landing spots. In an interview with Sky Sports Italia (via LazioNews24), Tare admitted that there is a genuine possibility for the Argentine to swap allegiances in Serie A this summer.
Correa has been making the headlines throughout the summer as his future at Lazio remains up in the air. After Paris Saint-Germain and several Premier League sides, Inter have emerged as the likeliest candidates to land the 27-year-old as a replacement for departed striker Romelu Lukaku.
After Lazio supremo Claudio Lotito drove Correa’s price tag down, Tare has now acknowledged the player’s desire to leave Rome.
“Correa wants to leave Lazio, there is the possibility with Inter. We’ll see in the next few hours. He’s an important player for us. It depends on Inter,” he said.
“There is also something abroad, but he wants to stay in Italy. A real negotiation has never started. There is the will but nothing concrete. The agents are working to solve the problem.
“Whoever stays here must be happy, it’s fundamental. We respect Correa because he has always behaved well, even in this period, he has been exemplary.
“We have to be patient, it will be decided one way or the other.“
Despite capturing the signature of Edin Dzeko from Roma, Inter are firmly in contention to sign another star from the capital. Simone Inzaghi is pushing ahead for a move for Correa, who was one of his most trusted allies at Lazio.
The ex-Sevilla forward is also enthusiastic about the prospect of a reunion, which boosts Inter’s hopes of completing the move in the final stage of the transfer window.
