Illegal Gambling Case Expands to Tonali and Zaniolo

Two Italy and Premier League stars, Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Zaniolo, have been excused by the Azzurri and after the police showed up at the Coverciano HQ to notify them of the investigation on illegal gambling.

FIGC issued a statement.

“The Federation announces that the Turin’s DA office served Tonali and Zaniolo the deeds. Besides their nature, we believe the two players aren’t in the right conditions to face the next matches. They have been allowed them to return to their teams, also to protect themselves.”

Per Sky, the two talked with the detectives for a while accompanied by delegation leader Gianluigi Buffon. It’s the same probe involving Nicolò Fagioli. They haven’t left yet, though.

Tonali and Zaniolo were mentioned as gambling men by gossip specialist Fabrizio Corona. He broke the news about the Juventus midfielder while it was still under the radar. He alleged that the ex-Roma star bet on his team even while he was on the bench in a Coppa Italia game. The journalist was questioned in Milan after his revelations.

The Bianconeri youngster remains currently the only player under investigation. His probe is at advanced stages on the sporting side. Tonali and Zaniolo are no longer in Italy and would therefore face a different type of legal procedure, if necessary.
