Immobile Addresses Saudi Arabia Links and Recent Form

Lazio and Ciro Immobile are in Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa, where they’ll debut against Inter in the semi-final on Friday. The striker has been linked to a move to such a league in the summer and before the winter window, but he explained why he opted not to depart in his pre-game presser (via Il Messaggero)

“It’s a growing championship. The structures have improved compared to 2019. Everybody is looking at it. I think there could be an important league here in the future. I’ve had some approaches with the local clubs, but nothing came to fruition in the end. I’ve always tried to be as transparent and honest as possible and decided to stay at Lazio to carry on the project of growth of the team.”

Immobile weighed in on Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who instead indeed joined a Saudi club last summer.

“Maybe you are discovering him now here, but we thoroughly enjoyed him over the years. He’s a great champion and a strong player who made history at Lazio. We were very sorry when he left and wished him the best of fortunes.”

Immobile commented on their recent turnaround.

“There have never been problems inside the locker room. After the Empoli game, I wanted to defend it as the captain. We were just missing some continuity in our results. We have always given our best on the pitch and tried to show it. It didn’t always happen, especially in the beginning, but we’re improving little by little.”
