Immobile Forced to Miss Switzerland Game Due to Injury

The enthusiasm of Ciro Immobile for his Italy return and his recent performances lasted only a few hours. The Lazio striker has left the Coverciano training center because of a calf injury. Roberto Mancini has called up Gianluca Scamacca to fill in for him offensively. He has bagged 2 goals in 12 seasonal appearances.

Immobile is nursing an issue to the soleus muscle of the right calf, La Repubblica reports. He had trained on the side to open the week. The national team doctors relayed that he sustained it in the last Serie A game against Salernitana. The Lazio medical staff will now assess him fully. The Biancocelesti will face Juventus in less than two weeks. He is tentatively in doubt for the clash. He would have little chance to be available if he suffered a strain.

After Immobile, Roberto Mancini might lose also Giorgio Chiellini and Nicolò Barella. The duo could not train with the rest of the group for the second day in a row. While they are not dealing with significant thigh problems, Friday might be too early for them to be ready. The Azzurri are already without Marco Verratti, Lorenzo Pellegrini, and Nicolò Zaniolo for the key World Cup qualifier against Switzerland.

The opponents are equally depleted. Steven Zuber recently picked up an adductor problem. Breel Embolo, Nico Elvedi, Christopher Fassnacht and Gregor Kobel got hurt over the weekend, Sky Sport reports. Instead, Granit Xhaka and Haris Seferovic have been on the mend for a while with long-term issues.
