Immobile Still Searching For Scoring Touch This Season

Ciro Immobile returned to the starting lineup against Feyenoord after two games, but his performance left a lot to be desired. He didn’t take a single shot for the fourth consecutive appearance and turned the ball over four times. He was replaced by Taty Castellanos, who provided a jolt, after 55 minutes.

As Goal informs, the Biancocelesti icon has scored just twice so far, once with a PK. He added one with Italy against North Macedonia. It’s a meager haul considering his standards. Small injuries have contributed, as he has often dealt with muscle fatigue.

Immobile dished on his form and future lately.

“Staying here for life? I couldn’t say yes or no now. I’ve been thinking about it for a while. I’d lean toward the second answer due to the injury and the negative stretch. The response would be different had I scored 20 goals already.”

“The fact that I turned down the Saudi offer wasn’t appreciated enough. I thought it might have been time for me to leave for a while. I’ll resume scoring. I had a slump also before the 100th goal. That’s not the problem. Maybe many forget that when I came here in 2016, it wasn’t like this.”

Coach Maurizio Sarri vowed to stick with Immobile after the game.

“We can’t leave him behind. He’ll never get back on track if Castellanos plays all the time. He and Matteo Guendouzi started on the bench because they played Saturday. I was undecided whether to choose technique or physicality against Feyenoord.”
