Inter About to Part Ways with Pricey Surplus Attacker

Inter and Alexis Sanchez are closing in on an agreement for an early termination of the contract ahead of his likely transfer to Olympique Marseille. His agent Fernando Felicevich will be in Milan today to finalize the paperwork. The official announcement should come soon.

The Nerazzurri will give the Chilean veteran €5M gross to sever his deal, L’Equipe reports. He moved to Milan from Manchester United in 2020, first on loan and then on a free switch. He mostly served as a super-sub in the last three seasons. The 33-year-old featured in 108 matches, hitting the net 20 times and dishing 23 assists.

Sanchez is expected to sign with Marseille after partying ways with Inter. The Ligue 1 side has prepared a two-year contract with €3M wages plus add-ons. Les Phocéeens were one of the first sides to track him this summer. Their interest didn’t wane even if former Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli stepped down and replaced with Igor Tudor. The striker will continue playing in the Champions League as he wishes.

As per Calcio e Finanza, the Nerazzurri will register a small loss, €160k, on their balance sheets, but they will save about €4M on his salary. They had done the same thing with Arturo Vidal in July.

Our Take on Sanchez Leaving Inter for Marseille

La Beneamata needed to reduce their payroll and did it in the most logical way, cutting ties with two overpaid veterans. The attacker was still useful off the bench, but the red card against Liverpool marred the final months of his stay. One has to wonder whether Paulo Dybala would have joined had this move come earlier. Still, they can’t complain about their offensive quality and depth.
