Inter Ace Calhanoglu Talks Future, Napoli Challenge and UCL Dream

Inter midfield ace Hakan Calhanoglu believes his side have all the ability to catch up with league leaders Napoli, who they play first when the season resumes on January 4. The Turkey international has been busy training during the World Cup break, preparing for the resumption of the league.

In a lengthy exclusive interview with Corriere della Sera (via FCInterNews), Calhanoglu spoke about a variety of topics, including his future, his relationship with Simone Inzaghi, and the upcoming clash against Porto in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

“Of course we believe in a comeback. If we restart with the same quality as the last few games before the break, we can do it. It is a decisive challenge (against Napoli).”

Calhanoglu also shed light on a potential contract extension to his existing deal that expires in June 2024, revealing that he is expecting a call soon from sporting director Piero Ausilio.

“I want to talk about it, I’m waiting for him to call me.”

He also disclosed his relationship with ex-Lazio manager Inzaghi.

“Excellent. He is one of the people who wanted me most at Inter, he has shown that he believes in my qualities from day one.”

Finally, Calhanoglu thinks Inter are well capable of upsetting the top dogs enroute a first UCL title in over a decade.

“Winning the Champions League is one of my dreams. This year I believe in it. I don’t quite know why, I have a particular feeling. We got through a difficult group. We got back up after the defeat against Bayern showing what we’re capable of. Porto they are a strong team, but if we play like against Barcelona we can go through.”
