Inter are delighted for the impact Simone Inzaghi has had after taking over from Antonio Conte. To the point that they are already considering handing him an extension. The coach is currently under contract until 2023 and earns €4M per season. The Nerazzurri want to have him on the bench long-term, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

The plan to add two more years to his deal has already been set in motion. It will come to fruition in the first few months of 2022. Inter will not go into the next campaign with a gaffer on an expiring contract, the newspaper informs.

CEO Giuseppe Marotta addressed the rumors to Mediaset yesterday: “The most important thing is that Inzaghi has quickly become a major reference point for Inter. We are very happy and proud of him, and he feels the same about representing this club. The work of the previous managers laid the foundation, and he is now guiding a team of champions.” Instead, the coach sidestepped the question: “The buzz about the extension is flattering, but we have other priorities at the moment.”

Inter suffered against Real Madrid just the third loss of the season yesterday, the second versus the Merengues. They had not capitulated since mid-October when Lazio defeated them. They had ripped off an 11-game positive streak, with nine wins. The Nerazzurri caught up with Napoli in the standings and are now one point behind the league-leading Milan. Inzaghi followed in Conte’s footsteps tactically speaking, adding more offensive oomph. They have been the most prolific team in Serie A.
