Denzel Dumfries and Inter are set for a new round of negotiations following the Netherlands’ deep run in Euro 2024. It’s crunch time for the player’s camp and the team, as his contract is up in 2025.
According to Corriere dello Sport (via Mediaset), the wingback appears more inclined to stay than to leave, while the opposite seemed true in the lead-up to the summer window. His representative Rafaela Pimenta tested the waters, but no big team has moved to acquire him or put lofty sums on the table yet.
Inter have tendered €4M annually to Dumfries and his entourage, which initially asked for €5M. He came in from PSV with a €2.5M salary a few years back and never touched it up afterward. Nerazzurri director Piero Ausilio recently voiced his confidence about his permanence, and the Dutchman left the door open in recent statements.
If the parties are unable to find common ground, he’ll be sold for €25/30M to avoid a Bosman departure. The Italian champions have Dan Ndoye at the top of their shortlist of replacements.
Our Take on Inter and Dumfries
He’s been brilliant during Euro 2024, which might entice some sides to go after him. Despite his inconsistency, the fee would be very reasonable; plus, it looks like last year’s struggles were mostly injury-related, and perhaps the uncertain contractual situation played a role too. If the reported numbers are true, there’s not a gulf between the parties. It’d surely be tough for the Nerazzurri to find somebody better at an affordable price to substitute for him.
