Inter and Juventus to Duel for Serie A Defender

Whilst half of Europe is apparently on the trails of Dusan Vlahovic, another Serbian at Fiorentina is gaining interest from the big boys in Italy. Nikola Milenkovic has cemented himself as one of the most promising defenders in Serie A, as Juventus and Inter will both try to sign him in the upcoming transfer market, at least according to la Gazzetta dello Sport via Calciomercato.

The 23-year-old joined the Viola in the summer of 2017 after developing within the youth ranks of Partizan Belgrade. The Serbia international is primarily a center back, but can also be deployed at right-back.

This isn’t the first time that the defender gets linked with top clubs, as rumors in the past repeatedly tipped him for a move towards Manchester United.

Nonetheless, Milenkovic could eventually remain in the Italian peninsula, as both Juventus and Inter could be in need of some defensive reinforcements.

With Giorgio Chiellini’s future being uncertain, the Bianconeri could be searching the market for a new partner for Matthijs de Ligt – as Leonardo Bonucci is beginning to show signs of aging, whilst Merih Demiral hasn’t totally convinced yet.

On the other hand, the newly crowned Italian champions could end up losing either Milan Skriniar or Alessandro Bastoni next summer – as the report claims – and thus would need a capable replacement.

Even if both center backs remain with the Nerazzurri, Antonio Conte would definitely love to have another solid option at his disposal.

Therefore, it remains to be seen whether Juventus and Inter would be willing to go all the way in the race to sign Milenkovic, as the competition is expected to include other top European clubs.

The Fiorentina man appeared in 34 Serie A matches this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in the process.
