Valentin Carboni is headed to Olympique Marseille as the two sides are finalizing the details of his transfer. The Nerazzurri have decided not to cash in on the prodigy and will retain control. It’ll be his second consecutive loan after his spell at Monza, Corriere dello Sport relays (via OneFootball).
The talent will extend his contract with the Scudetto holders until 2029 beforehand. The Ligue 1 side will pay €1M to have him in 2024/2025. They’ll have an option to buy him out for €36M at the end of the season. However, the Serie A giants will be able to counter and keep him with a €40M check.
Inter believe a turn at Olympique Marseille under Roberto De Zerbi will be highly beneficial for Carboni. He eventually carved a decent role at Monza in the last campaign even though he had to compete with multiple attackers and was fairly similar to their best player Andrea Colpani.
The starlet was called up by Argentina for the Copa America, although he didn’t log many minutes in the United States. He’s been with the Nerazzurri since 2020 as they signed him from Catania, which had lured him from Lanus the year before, for €300k.
Our Take on Carboni, Inter, and Olympique Marseille
It would have been counter-intuitive if one of the first moves of their ownership, which supposedly wants to add and groom youngsters, was to sell one of the few they already have and the brightest one. Plus, he’s just scratching the surface value-wise. On the other hand, the missed income will have consequences on their budget and plans.
