Inter and Milan Set to Financially Benefit from UEFA’s Embargo on Russia

Both Milan and Inter are set to financially benefit from the exclusion of Russian giants Zenit St.Petersburg from European competitions as UEFA’s sanctions on Russian teams still stands due to the country’s invasion of Ukraine earlier this year.

Teams from Russia are effectively banned from European competitions in 2022/23, meaning no Champions League, Europa League or Conference League, until a solution is found.

According to CalcioeFinanza (via PianetaMilan), Russian champions Zenit will be replaced by the Scottish league champions, who are most likely to be Celtic. Milan and Inter’s lower ranking – 26th and 27th respectively – than Zenit’s 24th in the UEFA coefficients, means that the Italian heavyweights will be raking in more into their coffers on account of the Russians being excluded.

The Rossoneri are expected to add €12.5m to their accounts, whereas the Nerazzurri will bank €13.6m – an extra million each due to Zenit’s absence.

However, Juventus (4th) and Napoli (19th) will not be benefitted by the Russian embargo due to them being above Zenit in the 10-year ranking.
