Inter are at risk of losing out top goalkeeper target Anatoliy Trubin to reigning Primeira Liga holders Benfica. According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Portuguese giants have recently accelerated talks to sign the Shakhtar Donetsk rising star.
While working on a dragged deal to land Bayern Munich’s Yann Sommer, Inter are in the market for another shot-stopper. After reluctantly sanctioning Andre Onana’s switch to Manchester United and severing ties with long-serving captain Samir Handanovic, Simone Inzaghi is without a senior option between the sticks.
Trubin has emerged as an ideal option for the future. Yet, Shakhtar’s €20 million valuation of the 22-year-old has blown Inter out of the water. Athletico Paranaense’s Bento has been the latest alternative to pop up in Beppe Marotta’s notebook. But Trubin remains the dream signing.
Unfortunately for Inter, he could remain only a dream. Unlike the Italians, Benfica won’t hesitate to meet the Ukrainians’ price tag after identifying Trubin as one of their summer priorities. However, this report should be taken with a grain of salt.
Odysseas Vlachodimos excelled at the Estadio da Luz last season. At 29, he is at his peak powers. Therefore, it’s a bit unfathomable why Benfica would allocate such significant funds to sign a new goalie. Their presence in the race for Trubin could still harm Inter, though.
More suitors often mean a better bargaining position for the club selling their players. With Benfica in the picture, Shakhtar could inflate Trubin’s price, which would probably deter Inter from making another attempt this summer.
