Inter At Top of Queue as Bremer Edges Closer to Leaving Torino

Inter have reportedly made progress in negotiations to sign in-demand Torino center-back Gleison Bremer ahead of bitter rivals Milan. According to Calciomercato, the reigning Serie A champions have the Brazilian’s consent for a switch in the upcoming transfer window.

Bremer has been nothing short of outstanding since joining Torino from Atletico Mineiro in summer 2018. During his three-year spell at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, he has become one of the most highly-rated defenders in Serie A, attracting attention from several top domestic clubs.

Milan and Inter are both keen to land the 24-year-old, though they face stiff foreign competition in Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs are on the lookout for a new center-back in the wake of Cristian Romero’s long-term injury. After taking the Argentine away from Serie A in the summer, the Premier League heavyweights are aiming at concluding another piece of business in Italy.

However, Inter look to be in pole position to secure Bremer’s signature in January. The player is willing to link up with the Nerazzurri as he hopes to leave Torino for a high-profile move in the near future. His current deal in Turin runs out in summer 2023, and there’s been no breakthrough in extension talks as of yet.

Still, Bremer’s potential move to Giuseppe Meazza is not unconditional. Inter first need to sell Stefan de Vrij to make room for Bremer’s arrival. Since the Dutchman is unlikely to extend his contract at the club, the Nerazzurri are looking to ship him out for a fee of €20m.

With Torino slapping a €25m price tag on Bremer’s shoulders, it seems reasonable to consider de Vrij’s potential departure would trigger the Brazilian’s arrival. That’s not what Milan would want to hear, given their ongoing pursuit of a new center-back.

Simon Kjaer’s season-ending injury has forced the Rossoneri to dive back into the market to find a replacement. In addition to Bremer, Milan are keeping close tabs on Lille starlet Sven Botman.
