Inter Backup Eyes Exit over Dissatisfaction with Role

Roberto Gagliardini drew a rare start in Saturday’s win over Hellas Verona as Inter were dealing with a few injuries in the midfield. After the game, he announced that he would depart at the end of his expiring contract (via Calciomercato).

“I’m 28 and still have a lot to give. I’m no longer willing to have this little playing time. In June, I’ll make my choices. I swallowed a lot of anger and learned to be more mature.”

Coach Simone Inzaghi replied.

“The most important thing for him is to keep being a professional, as he has always done. He’s regarded by everybody here.”

According to the publication, Inter have long decided not to re-up with Gagliardini. Given his outburst, the parties might split in January if another team wants him. Torino touched base, but the talks didn’t go far. A foreign side might come forward in the next few days. He has also often been linked to Monza in the past.

The Nerazzurri acquired the midfielder for €25M from Atalanta in 2027. He didn’t live up to his price tag and was quickly relegated to a bench role. He has accumulated 148 appearances over the years.

Our Take on Inter and Gagliardini

Nobody would cry a river inside the club if he bolted right away. However, the problem is that they are very thin in the midfield. Therefore, even a player that has proven not to be top-team material is still valuable. But it probably wouldn’t take too much to find somebody similar.
