Inter Backup Striker Reportedly on Newcastle Radar

Newcastle have set their sights on Joaquin Correa and are contemplating going after him in January. He and Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic top the shortlist to bolster their strike force in the next transfer market window.

As per SportMediaset, the Magpies are willing to invest to sign one of the two attackers in early 2023. Inter purchased the Argentine for €30M, combining the initial fee for the loan and their ensuing obligation to buy. He was a direct request by coach Simone Inzaghi. Though, he hasn’t had a ton of success in Milan.

Newcastle would likely have to disburse something similar to what the Nerazzurri paid to Lazio to onboard Correa. He has logged 48 appearances in the last season and a half, tallying 8 goals and 4 assists. He has often been slowed down by nagging injuries.

Even though Romelu Lukaku has missed extended time with a thigh strain, Edin Dzeko, who’s a better fit next to Lautaro Martinez, has seen more minutes than El Tucu. He got off to a pretty good start but has not scored since late August. He recently skipped two matches with knee soreness.

Our Take on Newcastle Tracking Correa

If Lukaku managed to stay healthy, the Argentine would be the fourth option up front, and an overpriced one, especially considering Inter’s reeling finances. They would likely be happy to cash in on him if they got a decent bid. The striker probably has more admirers abroad. He’s decent, but he’s more of a reserve option than a difference-maker at a top club, given his lack of consistency and recurring ailments.
