Inter Bid for Ligue 1 Starlet Comfortably Rebuffed

Inter tried to close their second summer signing in a blitz, but Monaco turned down their opening bid for Maghnes Akliouche on Friday. According to French newspaper L’Equipe, the Ligue 1 runners-up rejected the Italians’ €25 million proposal for the 22-year-old.

Capable of covering multiple positions in the midfield, Akliouche is equally well-versed in operating on the flank. There’s a feeling Inter see him as a potential wingback addition now that they endeavor to replace Tajon Buchanan.

The former Club Brugge ace picked up an injury at the 2024 Copa America. Inter will be without the Canada international in the opening few months of the new season. As a result, they’re frantically scouring the market for a new wingback.

Ex-Torino captain Ricardo Rodriguez has recently emerged as a potential low-cost solution for Inter. In addition, Simone Inzaghi’s men have joined Lazio in the race to sign Hellas Verona’s Juan Cabal. But they made concrete steps to sign Akliouche.

Monaco deemed Inter’s initial offer insufficient. They’re keen to fend off interest in their rising star this summer. But with Akliouche’s contract running out in 2026, they’re running out of time to sell their prized asset at a premium price. It’s hard to see Inter increasing their opening bid.

While working on reinforcing the flank, Inter announced a long-overdue contract extension with Inzaghi on Friday. The former Lazio head coach deserved a new contract after leading the Nerazzurri to a convincing Serie A triumph in 2023/24.
