Inter Boss Has More Trust in Young Gun Than Benjamin Pavard

High-flying Inter regained a four-point lead at the top of the Serie A table with a 2-0 home win against Lecce on Saturday evening. Up-and-coming defender Yann Bisseck embraced the spotlight in his third consecutive league start, getting off the mark in Italy’s top flight to put Nerazzurri in front.

Injuries to Benjamin Pavard and Stefan de Vrij have increased the 23-year-old’s first-team prospects following a torrid start to his Inter career. Determined to make the most of it, Bisseck has gone from strength to strength, forging a formidable defensive unit responsible for three consecutive clean sheets in Serie A.

On top of his impressive defensive performances, Bisseck proved a genuine attacking threat in set-piece situations. He was inches away from breaking the deadlock in the 40th minute, but the crossbar stood in his way. Only three minutes later, he netted an outstanding header to hand Inter a lead right before halftime.

Many put Inzaghi’s decision to hand Bisseck another Serie A start down to Pavard’s injury. However, the Inter boss admitted in the aftermath that he preferred the German youngster over the former Bayern Munich star due to his commitment and continuous improvement.

Bisseck is a lad who signed for Inter on July 13 thanks to Marotta and Ausilio. I didn’t know him,” the Inter coach told DAZN, as quoted by TMW. “I had watched some videos. He kept improving in training, working quietly.

Pavard was ready to play tonight, but Bisseck deserved to be confirmed because he is doing well and he must continue like this. Now, he must not lower his guard.
