Inter Boss Inzaghi Takes Swing at Referees After Juventus Loss

Inter boss Simone Inzaghi was left fuming at the match officials after his side succumbed to an evenly-contested 1-0 loss to Juventus on Sunday night. Filip Kostic’s first-half strike determined the latest edition of the famous Derby d’Italia, yet the events leading to his goal made the Nerazzurri chief of staff mad.

Though Kostic put the ball in the back of the net, referee Daniele Chiffi had every reason to consult with the side-pitch monitor over a handball in the build-up. And it wasn’t just one but two controversial moments taking place earlier in action leading to Juventus’ winner.

Adrien Rabiot extended his arm to take the ball down before Dusan Vlahovic did the same after receiving the pass from the Frenchman. However, instead of observing the situation himself, Chiffi allowed the VAR room to do the heavy lifting, with the decision going in Juventus’ favor.

It took them a few minutes to give the verdict, which didn’t go down well with Inzaghi. The Inter tactician did not hold back when making his feelings clear about the referee’s call in a post-match rant.

We conceded a goal that shouldn’t have stood and changed the course of the match; something very serious happened. It wasn’t easy in the first half because they were defending deeply with many men,” he told the club’s website.

Despite falling behind in the first half, Inter were far better opposition before halftime. However, Kostic’s opener shifted momentum to the visitors’ favor as Inzaghi’s side lost confidence.

We could have equalized in a match that, unfortunately, was characterized by incidents that steered it in Juventus’ favor. The result doesn’t reflect what happened on the pitch,” Inzaghi continued.

The incidents during tonight’s game made the difference, and what happened is unacceptable. Tonight, unlike in other games, there were no slip-ups on our part; the goal had a decisive impact on the match. We started well, and I can have no complaints about the team’s attitude.
