Reigning champions Inter dismantled Bologna 6-1 at Giuseppe Meazza on Saturday evening to return to winning ways in Serie A. However, a sweet victory over in-form visitors was soured by Joaquin Correa’s injury that forced him to leave the pitch midway through the first half.
It was Correa’s first Serie A start for Inter since joining the club from Lazio late in the summer. Unfortunately, the Argentine will want to put it behind as soon as possible after being forced out of action following a rough challenge from Lorenzo De Silvestri.
During the post-match interview, Inter boss Simone Inzaghi gave his assessment of his team’s performance and delivered an update on Correa’s physical condition.
“It was very important to get back to winning ways, we knew the importance of the match after an excellent performance against Real Madrid, from which unfortunately the result was missing,” he said, as relayed by the SempreInter.
“We must have had a lot of anger in our bodies because we were facing a team that had not conceded a goal in the last two games,” he said of this evening’s opposition.
“Congratulations to everyone. Today was not easy, we took to the pitch with the right kind of concentration we need in these games. We enjoy this success after the absurdity on Wednesday, but we have to look forward because on Tuesday we will face another important challenge.”
About Correa, Inzaghi said: “We cross our fingers, he is doing the examinations in the hospital and we hope it is nothing serious.“
Edin Dzeko, who replaced Correa just before the half-hour mark, grew into one of the heroes of Inter’s emphatic triumph. The Bosnian netted a second-half brace, including a stunning 68th-minute screamer to make it 6-0.
In addition to Dzeko, Lautaro Martinez, Milan Skriniar, Nicolo Barella, and Matias Vecino all got on the scoresheet for the reigning champions. Meanwhile, second-half substitute Arthur Theate nodded home a free header to give Bologna a consolation strike in the 86th minute.
