Inter Boss Waxes Lyrical About Fiorentina Win Despite Wasted Chances

With confidence oozing out of every pore, Inter soared to the top of the Serie A table with a 1-0 win against Fiorentina on Sunday night. Despite lacking several significant first-team stars, including Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella, Nerazzurri completed another top-flight double against La Viola

Though Sunday’s win wasn’t as convincing as a 4-0 thumping in the reverse fixture, Lautaro Martinez’s first-half header proved sufficient to propel Inter back to the Serie A summit. Simone Inzaghi’s side survived scary moments later on as Yann Sommer had to thwart Nicolas Gonzalez’s penalty to secure three points.

Inzaghi admitted Inter could’ve killed the game off sooner but hailed his side’s performance as they posted their 17th triumph in 21 Serie A matches this season.

Clearly, after taking the lead, we had lots of chances where we could’ve done better, including one where Terracciano made a great save. After the break, there were many counter-attacks where again we usually have more quality,” the Inter manager said, as quoted by TMW.

Despite failing to score a second goal, Inter hit a 50-goal landmark in Tuscany while adding another clean sheet to the tally. As such, it was impossible for Inzaghi to criticize his players in the aftermath.

I cannot reproach anything with these lads, as we won 17 games out of 21, scored 50 goals, and conceded ten, so I can only applaud them.

Inter now boast a one-point lead on second-placed Juventus and have a game in hand, with a 20th Scudetto feeling within touching distance.
