Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has bashed the rising costs of maintaining a footballer within a club. The Italian executive believes players should be treated as employed workers rather than stars or actors, meaning the elimination of incredible costs that offset their true value.
Speaking at a meeting of the Italpress Agency in an exclusive interview (via FCInterNews), Marotta shed light on one of the reasons why he thinks Italian football is facing an economic crisis.
“We need to cut costs, but there is to discuss the classification of players, who are employed workers and this means meeting incredible costs. For the world of football, labor costs clearly exceed 65%, which in a mineral water company, for example, would mean reaching the default point.”
Marotta then spoke about players being treated like stars rather than players.
“When, from a legislative point of view, the player was no longer classified as an employee, but like a star or an actor, then we would have a downsizing of costs. It would be an immediate tool to eliminate most of the problems in the world of football.”
