Inter Chief Beppe Marotta Reveals Why Chilean Duo Were Sold

Inter sold two of their Chilean superstars last summer – with Alexis Sanchez heading to Olympique de Marseille and Arturo Vidal joining Brazilian outfit Flamengo in a last minute move. Club chief Beppe Marotta has now revealed the reasons behind their respective departures.

In an exclusive interview with La Tercera (via FCInterNews), the ex-Juventus CEO shed light on the background of the previous summer transfer market.

“Sanchez didn’t stay for economic reasons, we needed to lower the wage bill. I can assure you that it was not a request from the coach. Vidal’s departure is instead due to a question of age. Our recruitment program provides for the inclusion of younger players, such as Kristjan Asllani who was born in 2002.”

Apart from Asllani, Inter also brought in Raoul Bellanova on loan from Cagliari. Andre Onana, Joaquin Correa, Romelu Lukaku, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Francesco Acerbi were the other high-profile transfer of the previous summer transfer window.
