Inter Chief Marotta Removes Inzaghi from the Hot Seat

Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta offered his support for Simone Inzaghi before the Nerazzurri defeated Benfica two-nil away. The exec claimed that the club wasn’t considering a coaching change, no matter the result. He talked to Sky and SportMediaset.

“We are still among the protagonists of this season, even though less so in Serie A, where we have been inconsistent. Maybe we would have deserved and wished for different positions, but we couldn’t earn them, and that’s not to the detriment of the boss. A top club must have continuity in all competitions. We have to remedy that all together, players and management included. We don’t have much time to do it, but we must try to qualify for the Champions League until the end.”

Marotta added that Inzaghi wasn’t on the dock.

“The present and the future can’t be affected by one game. Inter face the pressure of being a big team, so we must always measure up. We are below expectations just in Serie A. It’s the only blemish of our campaign. It’s part of the game, and it’s the first time we had a mid-season World Cup, after which some of our players, and other sides’ too, didn’t perform up to their standards. I’m optimistic because the squad never lacked professionalism.”

Our Take on Inter, Marotta, and Inzaghi

Since the brass supposedly gave the gaffer an ultimatum, they have drawn twice domestically in unlucky fashion and sealed the qualification to the Champions League semi-finals. Despite their results, the Nerazzurri have looked rudderless just once or twice and have been alive for the most part. Their schedule is too thick and the objectives too important for a major shake-up since the situation isn’t desperate.
