Inter Closely Observe Retegui in Italy Debut Against England

Although Italy suffered a disappointing defeat to England at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, debutant Mateo Retegui had a memorable game, scoring the Azzurri’s only goal in the second half. The Boca Juniors youth product has been making the headlines for the all the right reasons since being called up to the national team by Roberto Mancini, and it’s not long before top clubs come calling.

According to Sky Sport (via FCInterNews), Inter are in pole position to sign Retegui in the future. The Nerazzurri have kept close tabs on him since the beginning of last year, when former Inter U19 player Facundo Colidio moved to Tigre, when Retegui is currently playing. The two clubs on eitherside of the Atlantic have maintained a good relationship since then, and Inter want to leverage that to sign the 23-year-old.

Moreover, Inter executive Dario Baccin was present at the Maradona yesterday to observe Retegui play against England in his national team debut. Despite having a relatively quiet game other than the consolation goal, the striker won praise for his spirited showing.

With Inter accelerating their efforts to sign players from South America, especially in defense, it would be no surprise if Retegui is signed come summer. Milan and Udinese are also reportedly interested in his services upfront.
