As Inter prepare to welcome Empoli at the Giuseppe Meazza, Simone Inzaghi expects nothing less than ‘120%’ from his men with only two more matches left in the season after Gli Azzurri’s visit.
The Nerazzurri handed their fate away in a 2-1 loss to Bologna, but a 2-1 victory against Udinese last week will certainly aid their morale in a bid for a second successive Scudetti.
Coach Inzaghi spoke to Inter TV (via FCinterNews) and backed his side to overcome ‘organized’ Empoli, who he says is a team full of quality.
“It will be one of those very treacherous matches because Empoli is a quality team, which has already hit its target. We will have to play a very careful game because we are dealing with an organized team that will come here to play their game,” said Inzaghi.
Sandwiched between Inter’s Empoli clash and subsequent league encounters against Cagliari and Sampdoria is a Derby d’Italia final against Juventus in the Coppa Italia.
Speaking of which, Inzaghi said: “In these last four games the technical-tactical aspects will be a little less, I think the motivations will make the difference. I am lucky to have a team that has always found the motivations, tomorrow we will have to pull out 120% in front of our fans.”
Inter start this match week before Milan take on Hellas Verona on Sunday evening. And the former Lazio tactician does not believe it will affect his team’s performance.
He said: “No, my task and that of my staff is to affect what we have in hand, on my team, without seeing what the others are doing or whether they will play sooner or later. We must take the race on ourselves and give 120%.”
Inter sit on 75 points, two behind the Rossoneri, and five ahead of Napoli.
The Nerazzurri will need to muster all their forces in order to maintain the pressure on Milan to deliver all nine points from the next three games to clinch the Scudetto title.
