Inter Coach Inzaghi on Lukaku, Onana and Napoli Threat

Inter cruised to a 6-1 victory over Gzira United in Malta in their first of two club friendlies in the island nation. While half of the starting eleven – Lautaro Martinez, Romelu Lukaku, Andre Onana, Marcelo Brozovic, Stefan De Vrij and Denzel Dumfries – are busy with the FIFA World Cup, the others, along with the Primavera team are busy camping with manager Simone Inzaghi for more game time.

Inzaghi cannot wait for the Serie A season to resume on January 4, but note before they conclude their friendly schedule. As relayed by Tuttomercatoweb (via FCInterNews), the ex-Lazio manager is focused on training his entire squad at the moment.

“Objectives in this training camp? We’re training well, yesterday’s match was demanding, we did what we had to against a good quality Maltese team, now we have to work to get to 4 January in the best possible way. I also had a good response from the boys of the Primavera, at the moment we have several players out. Darmian, D’Ambrosio and Correa are at Pinetina, I’m sure we will have them with us soon.”

He then updated on the return of Lukaku and Onana, who both exited the world cup following failure to progress from the group stage.

“Onana? Was there a misunderstanding that paid off him? But I heard him and he’s calm. I can talk about what happened at Inter: he’s a positive boy, when he was supposed to be on the bench, he stayed on the bench, and when he was supposed to play, he played.”

Lukaku? Clearly he was disappointed. he is a World Cup and he cares a lot about his national team. He played 45 minutes, had three chances that Belgium hadn’t had in the whole match. Having the chances, a striker must stay calm.”

Finally, Inzaghi took stock of the second half of the Serie A season, with Napoli still cruising unbeaten after 15 matchdays.

“We will have a very challenging January. We have seen that in 15 games there have been 10 victories which however are not enough. Naples is going at a very fast pace, we have to be ready: with these advances, 30 points are not enough. Naples have made an important journey, but there are still 23 round left to go.”

Inter sit in 5th position with 30 points from 15 games. They host league leaders Napoli at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza next on January 4.
