Inter Considered Reunion with Manchester City Misfit

Giuseppe Marotta played coy when quizzed about whether Inter would sign a new player after losing Tajon Buchanan for four months, but the Nerazzurri quickly tested the waters about a high-profile target, Joao Cancelo, but their attempt was short-lived due to the cost of the operation, Gianluca Di Marzio informed.

The Portuguese fullback returned to Manchester City after a loan spell at Barcelona. He’ll likely depart again, and the Blaugrana are expected to try to bring him back. He was a regular last season and posted 4 goals and 5 assists in 42 appearances.

Inter inquired about Cancelo, but they’ll move on to other targets since he makes €10M annually, which is way too much for their standards. The 30-year-old played for them for a season back in 2017/2018.

Despite a solid campaign, they didn’t buy him out from Valencia, and Juventus acquired him for €40M the following summer. He stayed in Turin for just a year, as Manchester City purchased him for €28M plus Danilo. After three seesawing seasons in England, he left temporarily to play for Bayern Munich and lastly Barcelona.

Our Take on Inter and Cancelo

Given the caliber of the player, he would have eventually substituted Denzel Dumfries and not Buchanan, although he’s more versatile and would have helped them on the other flank as well. They might not be too confident despite the recent optimistic rumors about the renewal of the Dutchman. It looks like their pursuit didn’t have legs, but the Portuguese will be one to watch this summer nonetheless.
