Inter Continue to Monitor Lazio-Linked Bundesliga Star

Inter are reportedly left alone in the pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt winger Filip Kostic after Lazio pulled out of the race. According to CalciomercatoI Nerazzurri are still entertaining the prospect of landing the Serbia international, who was on the club’s radar throughout the summer.

Lazio long looked to be in the driving seat to sign Kostic, but they were unable to find an agreement with Frankfurt despite putting in massive efforts. Maurizio Sarri was keen to bring the 28-year-old to the Stadio Olimpico to reinforce the left-hand side following the versatile midfielder’s stunning season in the Bundesliga.

Kostic was nothing short of outstanding for Frankfurt in 2020/21, netting four goals and providing 17 assists in 30 appearances in Germany’s top-flight. He was equally impressive for Serbia on Saturday, delivering a couple of pinpoint assists as the Eagles swept Luxembourg aside with a commanding 4-1 victory in a World Cup qualifier.

Inter thought about launching an assault on Kostic amid Ivan Perisic’s uncertain future at the Giuseppe Meazza. However, since the Croat eventually stayed put, the reigning Serie A champions decided to focus on other targets down the final stretch of the summer transfer window.

The Italian giants could reignite their interest in Kostic now that Lazio are no longer in contention to acquire the winger’s services. The player himself is understood to be favoring a move after finding out that Frankfurt used some unconventional tricks to hinder his switch to Rome.

Kostic has two years left to run on his current contract at the Deutsche Bank Park and is eager to take the next step in his career. Since he has spent the last few years operating as a left wing-back, he would fit perfectly in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-4-3 formation.
