Inter Defense Currently the Best in Top Five Leagues

Inter have had basically a perfect start on both ends, with only a draw against Real Sociedad marring their going early. Despite alternating its members, their defense has improved. It’s currently the best across Europe, Corriere dello Sport points out.

The Nerazzurri have given up just one goal through five domestic games. They have conceded once, due to a gaffe by Alessandro Bastoni, in their lone European fixture. Manchester City rank second, with three in six Premier League matches.

Rafael Leao has been the only one to beat new starter Yann Sommer in Serie A thus far. However, it turned out to be just a consolation goal since the Derby ended in a 5-1 drubbing.

Simone Inzaghi has amply rotated in the back. Francesco Acerbi started the season on the mend, but they didn’t suffer because of it because Stefan De Vrij has been dependable. Benjamin Pavard wasn’t thrown in immediately as Matteo Darmian was faring well on the right-hand side. The former Bayern Munich star got the nod in the past two bouts.

Our Take on the Inter Defense

More challenging tests are needed to fully assess their solidity, as the only difficult tilts were against Fiorentina and Milan, but their early defensive performances are surely promising. For instance, allowing just once against Real Sociedad was a good sign since they were under pressure was a good hour. Their rearguard was a problem at times last season.
