Inter Dressing Room Stopped Ulterior Lukaku Talks

Romelu Lukaku will make his much-awaited return to San Siro and face an angry Inter crowd on Sunday. The Nerazzurri had set up a permanent deal to bring him back from Chelsea. However, they moved on once they realized he was keen on joining Juventus. There were a few more twists and turns in the saga, though.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the striker wasn’t answering his former teammates either while the executives struggled to reach out to him to finalize the deal. The fact that he didn’t attend Federico Dimarco’s wedding on June 24th had already raised eyebrows.

The Inter locker room completely turned their back to Lukaku in mid-July due to how he treated them. Since his Juventus move didn’t come together over disagreements about Dusan Vlahovic’s valuation, the Belgian tried to backtrack and reopen talks with the Nerazzurri later on.

However, the door was close-shut at that point. Not only from the directors he scorned but also from the players. The group leaders, Lautaro Martinez, Nicolò Barella, Alessandro Bastoni, and Dimarco deemed that the situation was beyond repair.

Inter put Marcus Thuram under contract shortly after the initial U-turn by Lukaku. They spent the summer searching for more strikers afterward, ultimately adding veterans Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez.
