Inter Earmark Rarely Used Roma Midfielder for Backup Role

Inter will consider signing a technical midfielder in case of departures. Marcelo Brozovic is currently their only centerpiece without a proper reserve. He has started in every game so far, more often than not playing the entire 90 minutes. Simone Inzaghi has been able to give him some rest only by taking him out early in matches that were already in hand.

The Nerazzurri stated that they wished to stand pat through the words of the coach and of CEO Giuseppe Marotta. Yet, it is possible that a pair of fringe contributors will transfer in January to seek more playing time. Matias Vecino and Stefano Sensi are the main candidates, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

Gonzalo Villar would fit the type of midfielder Inter are looking for. He has struggled to get minutes because José Mourinho prefers physical contributors in the role. The 23-year-old could be a better fit in the Nerazzurri’s design. Roma will likely allow him to leave on loan with option to buy. He has also drawn interest from Valencia, the newspaper adds.

A swap with Vecino does not appear to be viable as the Giallorossi have different priorities and would ask for monetary compensation. The Inter midfielder has better chances to move abroad. Newcastle United, Leicester City, and a pair of Spanish clubs have inquired about him. Instead, the management has reportedly left the decision to either go out on loan or stay entirely up to Sensi. A favorite destination for him has yet to emerge.
