Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio doesn’t anticipate much action in January. The Nerazzurri will bolster their squad naturally through better health. The exec spoke to SportMediaset following the Maestrelli award.
“We have a competitive squad. Our transfer market will consist of the returns of Marcelo Brozovic, Romelu Lukaku, and Joaquin Correa. Their absences took away resources. We’ll have three champions and more alternatives at our disposal. Lautaro Martinez will be very motivated after the World Cup.”
Ausilio was quizzed about the lengthy and thorny talks with Milan Skriniar.
“We are negotiating, and we have lodged an important offer. It will take time because he and his entourage are mulling it. I can attest to his professionality in training every day. He’s fully focused on Inter. Everybody hopes he’ll re-up. We wish he’ll be with us for a long time, but he has to be on the same page and contribute a little.”
The director praised Robin Gosens, who’s now likely to stay put.
“I think his Atalanta self is coming back. He’s fit physically. He was out for a long time and struggled to regain conditioning. Federico Dimarco blossomed, which reduced his minutes. We have two players in each role, and they are all strong.”
Ausilio shrugged off the controversy that led to André Onana’s ousting from the Cameroon camp in Qatar.
“He’s been with us for a week, and he’s fine. I didn’t ask him about it, and I don’t care. It’s paramount for him to be concentrated when he’s with us. Lukaku has turned the page. The World Cup was a matter that concerned him and his national team. Now he has to key in on Inter. They are both doing so.”
