Inter Expect Chelsea to Revisit for Wingback Dumfries

Chelsea onboarded Inter youth prodigy Cesare Casadei on a permanent deal, and now have sights firmly set on first-team talent Denzel Dumfries. As per the latest information emerging from Italy and England, the Blues are tipped to re-emerge as favorites for the full-back in the next week or so. With the summer transfer window set for a September 1 deadline, Chelsea are touted to accelerate their efforts.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports of the Nerazzurri’s demands in the range of €45-50M, which eventually the Blues did not want to meet earlier. However, Thomas Tuchel’s side are backed to revisit their interest in the Dutchman. Chelsea have just two right-backs in Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta, and Dumfries could very well end up as their third name in that position.

Inter, and especially Simone Inzaghi, count on the wingback for his services regularly. Matteo Darmian will alternate with Dumfries this season on the right wing, but Inter do have options at hand. Nonetheless, they would not want to lose the Dutch international after just one season, but their precarious financial position could force them to make the deal.

Dumfries is reportedly not very keen on joining Chelsea either but could be swayed with a large contract. The ex-PSV Eindhoven man played a key role in Inter’s first match of the new season, handing them all three points with a tap-in at the death – in the 95th minute – against Lecce.
