Inter Expedite Negotiation to Sign Bayern Munich Goalie

Inter are in a rush to acquire Yann Sommer after completing the sale of André Onana to Manchester United. The parties have signed on the dotted lines. Only the formalities are missing before the announcement. The Cameroonian will fly to his new home Tuesday.

Per Corriere dello Sport (via Tuttomercatoweb), the Nerazzurri have prepared a two-year contract with an option for the Swiss goalkeeper. There’s a 6M release clause in his deal with Bayern Munich. Since they have a good relationship with the Bavarians, they hope to come to terms to pay it in multi-year installments. They did the same thing with Yann Aurel Bisseck.

Inter are negotiating with Sommer as well, as he makes €5M per year, while they’d like his wages to be a bit lower. The Nerazzurri wish to bring him in before the end of the week. They’ll head to Japan for some friendlies Sunday.

La Beneamata can currently count just on their new third-stringer Raffaele Di Gennaro. Onana will leave soon. Samir Handanovic and Alex Cordaz were let go once their contracts ran out.

Our Take on Sommer and Inter

The biggest hurdle was convincing him to join and compete for the starting job, either with Anatoliy Trubin or another young stud. They are lucky he has a release clause; otherwise, Bayern Munich would have gladly kept ahold of him.
