Inter Have Two Strikers in Crosshairs After Lukaku Fiasco

After pulling the plug on Romelu Lukaku’s deal, Inter are scouring the market for a new striker. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Simone Inzaghi’s men have set their sights on Arsenal’s Falorin Balogun and Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.

Inter withdrew from the race to sign Lukaku on Saturday. Several rounds of talks with Chelsea failed to come to fruition, causing the Serie A heavyweights to abandon the negotiating table. However, they still must address a vacant spot in the front third despite landing Marcus Thuram on a free transfer.

Thuram comes as a replacement for Edin Dzeko, who has joined Fenerbahce. But Inter have yet to replace Lukaku, who went from strength to strength down the final stretch of last season. Balogun has emerged as a potential long-term solution.

Despite enjoying a stellar loan spell at Reims last season, the USMNT forward has no future at Arsenal. The Gunners have had a busy summer so far, and they’re open to selling the 22-year-old to comply with FFP rules. He’s not the only option for Inter, though.

Morata is another name on Beppe Marotta’s shortlist. The Spaniard is close to ending his association with Atletico after an underwhelming season. But Inter would have to overcome stiff competition from Roma. The Giallorossi have already taken some steps to bring the 30-year-old to Italy.

Not only would Morata be a more expensive option, but he’s also not getting any younger. Therefore, Balogun’s arrival makes more sense for Inter.
