Inter Hopeful of Snatching Bundesliga Defender on Free Transfer, But Face Barcelona Competition

Inter Milan are reportedly gunning for the services of Jonathan Tah who will become a free agent at the end of the season, but it won’t be an easy task amidst the strong competition for the defender’s services.

The 28-year-old has been plying his trade at Bayer Leverkusen since joining the club as a teenager back in 2015.

The Germany international has often been linked with top clubs around Europe, but the Bundesliga champions have always found a way to keep him at the BayArena.

Nevertheless, the situation has drastically changed this season, as the player’s contract will expire in June, and he has already made it clear that he doesn’t intend to sign a renewal.

Therefore,Tah will be free to leave at the end of the season, putting several top clubs on high alert, explains FcInterNews.

As the source reveals, Inter are hoping to snatch the player’s services, especially given how their backline needs fresh blood.

Simone Inzaghi is currently relying on 36-year-old Francesco Acerbi and 32-year-old Stefan de Vrij as his main options for the central defender role. Moreover, both players are running on expiring contracts, and the same goes for Matteo Darmian.

However, the report reckons that Inter’s mission won’t be easy, as the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also following the situation closely, in addition to Premier League clubs who could also enter the fray.

Nevertheless, the Italian champions feel they can close the deal as long Tah’s wage request doesn’t increase. The defender is currently expecting a net salary between 4 and 5 million euros per season.
