Inter Icon Bergomi: “Giroud is Better for France Than Benzema”

Inter icon Beppe Bergomi believes Milan star Olivier Giroud is more of a perfect pick for Didier Deschamps at the national level than Real Madrid hero Karim Benzema. Giroud has scored four goals in as many games for France, propelling them to the semi-finals and perhaps onto a second consecutive final appearance.

Speaking to Sky Soccer Club (via MilanNews) in an exclusive interview, Bergomi heaped praise on the ex-Arsenal and Chelsea center-forward.

“Did I expect it like this? Yes, because I think he is perfect for how France plays, perhaps more than Benzema. He fills the area penalty and makes the others work well. As Pioli said, Olivier seems to me to be an intelligent, hard-working boy. He arrived here in a club that has valued him and now he feels like an important player. This attitude has allowed him to lead the national team.”

Giroud helped France beat England and progress to face history-makers Morocco in the second semi-final, one day after Argentina play Croatia in the first of the two high-profile clashes.
