Inter Identify Top Target to Bolster Midfield

Rodrigo De Paul is atop of Inter’s list of reinforcements ahead of the January transfer market window, however a deal is currently considered difficult because of Udinese requests, Corriere dello Sport reported today. The Bianconeri are asking for around €40M for their star player.

The 26-year-old Argentinian midfielder has recently led the Friulani to a five-game undefeated streak, where they have beaten Genoa, Lazio and Torino, and has notched three goals in two assists in the past seven matches. Back in the middle of November, Udinese director Pierpaolo Marino stated that they would not sell any important player in January and that there is no truth to the rumours about De Paul leaving soon.

Our view

It is not exactly breaking news that De Paul is on Inter’s radar as they pursued him also in 2019 before landing Christian Eriksen. Given his superior familiarity with the League and with the role of box-to-box, and his stellar level of performance, he would be an ideal piece and would bring to the table what the Danish international has failed to provide so far.

However, a lot of things would need to go right for the Beneamata for it to happen in January as they would have to properly cash in on Eriksen and other potential outcasts and they would need to find a way and a formula to lower the price tag. On the other hand, if Udinese continued their run, they could be in a comfortable enough position to allow the sale.
