Inter in Advanced Talks for Contract Extension of Another of Their Stars

After taking care of Lautaro Martinez, Inter are planning to lock up another of their center-pieces. Nicolò Barella is already under contract till 2024. But the management plans to add more years and bump up his wages, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

The parties could put pen-to-paper as soon as next week, the transfer market expert indicates. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the new end date of his pact will be the same one as the Argentinian striker, 2026. The midfielder will have an increasing salary over the course of the five-year deal. He will start from €4.5M, with a 50% raise compared to the current €3M wages, and finish at €6M.

Barella joined Inter from Cagliari in 2019 for a total of €44.5M considering the fee for the initial loan and the option to buy. He just celebrated his 100th appearance with the Nerazzurri. He has recorded 8 goals and 27 assists.

Besides Martinez, Inter also quietly announced the extensions of CEOs Giuseppe Marotta and Paolo Antonello. Their contracts now run through 2024. The former had reportedly considered leaving when Antonio Conte wanted out, but ownerships reeled him in.

On the other hand, Inter will have to wait to come to terms with Marcelo Brozovic. The Italian publication relays that the meeting between the directors and his entourage, which was scheduled for this week, has been postponed for personal reasons. The contract of the Croatian midfielder expires in June 2022. The parties are reportedly €1M and one year apart in the negotiation.
