Inter are making headway in the race for budding Italian striker Mateo Retegui. The Argentine-Italian has long been a major target for the Nerazzurri, especially since making his international debut in successive UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers against England and Malta, where he scored two goals in as many appearances.
As per the latest reports by Tuttosport, La Beneamata is closing in on the marksman, having made advances in recent weeks with his entourage. The Tigre striker could be lured with a price tag of roughly €20M – almost four times his worth a few months ago.
Taking that into consideration, the Nerazzurri wish to use his current attacking partner, their own loanee Facundo Colidio, as a makeweight to lower the operation costs. He would join the Argentinian side permanently as part of the deal.
Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio and his deputy Dario Baccin see with Retegui an opportunity similar to the one that brought in Lautaro Martinez from Racing Club de Avellaneda back in 2018.
