Inter Join Atletico Madrid in Race to Sign Highly-Rated Flamengo Starlet

Inter have reached out to the representatives of 20-year-old striker Rodrigo Muniz. The Italian club asked about his intentions since he is on the radar of multiple clubs. Flamengo have been informed of their interest, Brazilian newspaper O Dia reported.

Al Nasr were in advanced talks to acquire the youngster, but their pursuit hit a snag as Atletico Madrid swooped in. The Colchoneros placed a €5M bid, but Flamengo rejected it, deeming it low. Muniz has a €6.85M release clause in his contract, which lasts until 2024. He debuted in the pros with Curitiba and moved to the Mengão in 2020. He has scored 5 goals with his current team, 4 of which in the Brazilian Serie A.

Inter are sorting through their offensive options behind Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez. Alexis Sanchez fared well when healthy last season, but he has a cumbersome salary. The management has to decide between offering an extension to reduce the yearly salary or part ways, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

Sanchez is currently under contract for two more seasons with €7M wages. He would likely accept a pay cut to €5M, adding one extra campaign. However, it would still be a problem for Inter and their cost-cutting policy as he would be tied to the club until he is 36. On the other hand, they would need to find a suitable replacement if he left. The Nerazzurri could keep Eddie Salcedo on the roster, who shares some traits. Muniz is instead a more physical player.
