Inter Join Milan Among Sides Tracking West Ham Striker

Inter are having some trouble coming to terms with Edin Dzeko, who’s on an expiring contract, and are eyeing Gianluca Scamacca as a potential replacement. New developments in the talks with the Bosnian striker are unlikely before the end of the season, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs (via Tuttomercatoweb).

The management touched base with his agents before Christmas and again in January. However, it was apparent that the parties weren’t on the same page. The club offered a one-year deal with a lower salary. Instead, the striker’s agent asked for a two-year one at his current wages. A move to the MLS could be in the cards for the veteran.

Inter would go younger if they couldn’t keep the aging marksman, and they had already pursued Scamacca in the past. However, they didn’t have enough money to sign him from Sassuolo. West Ham bested the Serie A giants with a €36M offer plus €6M add-ons. The forward hasn’t had a great season and would like to return to Italy. He recently changed agents and has been linked to Milan too.

If things moved in such direction, the Nerazzurri would attempt to arrange a season-long loan with option to buy. They’ll most likely have to intervene offensively. Romelu Lukaku isn’t a lock to stay, and Joaquin Correa might be made available.

Our Take on Inter and Scamacca

It would be nothing new for Italian players to head back after a spell abroad, but it would be odd if it happened so soon after a major investment. It’s up to West Ham to decide whether he has done enough to be confirmed. He wouldn’t lack suitors if he were indeed an option.
