Inter & Juventus to Go Head-to-Head for Man City Wingback

Manchester City outcast Joao Cancelo could make a rather unexpected return to Serie A, where he previously played for Inter and Juventus. According to recent reports in Spain, both clubs are interested in the Portugal international, who has no intention of staying at the Etihad Stadium.

Cancelo first landed in Italy in 2017 when Inter signed him on a season-long loan from Valencia. Following an impressive 2017/18 campaign, Juventus beat their bitter rivals to the punch, purchasing the skilled wingback for €40.4 million.

Though Cancelo fared well at the Allianz Stadium, Juventus traded him for Danilo in the summer of 2018. It has proved a massive hit, with the Brazilian becoming a defensive anchor in Turin. However, the duo could play together next season after the Bianconeri joined Inter in the hunt for the 30-year-old.

With Cancelo’s deal running out in 2027, Manchester City are reluctant to let him go for anything less than €20-30m. Barcelona would be happy to renew the player’s loan, but the perennial Premier League champions are keen to sell their misfit outright.

Juventus and Inter are in the mix. However, the Nerazzurri can’t afford Cancelo’s significant €10m annual salary. On the other hand, the Turin giants could stretch their financial muscle if they fail to extend Adrien Rabiot’s contract.

As that’s a distinct possibility, Juventus should have the upper hand on Inter in this hot pursuit. The only concern could be the player’s preference, considering he settled well in Barcelona last season.
