Inter Keen on Corinthians Defender on Expiring Deal

Inter are very attentive to the free agent market and on top of Tiago Djaló for next summer, they are keeping tabs on Bruno Mendez for January. His contract runs out in December 2023, and he won’t extend it to try to make the jump to Europe, SportMediaset informs (via OneFootball).

The 24-year-old has appeared 112 times with Corinthians since being signed from Montevideo Wanderers for €3.1M in 2019. He has also spent a year on loan at Internacional. He has nearly 100 appearances in the Brazilian Serie A under his belt. The center-back has also starred six times with Uruguay.

Inter would have to tussle with Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid to sign Bruno Mendez. They are enthused by his versatility. He can play either as the anchor or on the right-hand side of a three-man rearguard and also on the wing in a pinch.

The Nerazzurri recently lost Benjamin Pavard to a serious knee injury, but he should be back before the end of the calendar year. They have been tipped to loan out Yann Aurel Bisseck to allow him to gain experience.

Our Take on Inter and Bruno Mendez

They surely like Bosman additions, and they have a couple of balls in the air in the back that could lead to a January signing. First of all, Pavard’s health and Bisseck’s readiness. Juan Cuadrado’s lingering tendon inflammation is a factor too. Matteo Darmian has to juggle two roles if the Colombian is unavailable, which is a problem.
