Inter Keep Monitoring Athletico Paranaense Goalkeeper

Inter are in the market for a new deputy goalie and, after evaluating some alternatives, Bento is back at the forefront of their search. They have been after him for a couple of years. Their exec Dario Baccin recently traveled to South America and received the okay on the transfer from the shot-stopper, TuttoSport informs (via Goal).

The Nerazzurri are looking for a player who would back up Yann Sommer for a season or two and then take over. They have done this with Julio Cesar and Francesco Toldo in the past. Giuseppe Marotta pulled it off more recently at Juventus with Gianluigi Buffon and Wojciech Szczesny.

Bento has a €60M release clause for foreign teams, but Inter don’t plan to spend more than €15M for their next goalkeeper. They believe the figure could be enough to convince Athletico Paranaense.

The Nerazzurri examined Michele Di Gregorio, but his valuation is higher. Monza would have to accept a makeweight, Gaetano Pio Oristanio or Mattia Zanotti, for the deal to be feasible. They also like OH Leuven’s Tobe Leysen but don’t consider him ready just yet. They might sign him and loan him out to a minnow at first.

Our Take on Inter and Bento

Finding somebody willing to play ball with their plan will be more challenging than onboarding a pure deputy, which will likely happen if they can’t succeed in their first intent. Sommer is still going strong, so they can take a shot on a greener prospect.
